Project Background and Challenges
In the second half of 2024, a wellknown autoparts manufacturer within Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) kickedoff its new factoryexpansion project. The plant manufactures automotive engine components for precision manufacturing processes, which demands extremely high powersupply reliability. Any productionline shutdown may incur losses exceeding USD 5,000 per minute. Stable and safe powerdistribution infrastructure therefore became the core project requirement.
This project presented two major challenges. First, the factory site sits within downtown Bangkok, surrounded by residential and commercial premises. Strict local constraints apply for equipment noiselevels and firesafety ratings. Conventional oilimmersed transformers carry risks of oil leakage, fire hazards and excessive noise and could not satisfy onsite installation specifications. Second, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) of Thailand enforces rigorous rules for imported power equipment. All hardware must hold valid TISI (Thai Industrial Standard Institute) certification; without it, units cannot pass gridaccess acceptance and risk customs detention.
After three rounds of technical negotiations, factory site inspections and sample testing, the customer selected Jinma Electric to deliver an integrated “mediumvoltage switchgear plus drytype transformer” solution. Key deciding factors included our possession of TISI certification credentials, extensive experience delivering complete industrialset projects, and fastresponse technical support capacity.
Jinma Electric Integrated Program Design
Taking the highreliability and safety requirements of automotive precision manufacturing together with local Thai standards and site conditions into consideration, our technical team designed an intelligent powerdistribution scheme with complete “fiveprevention” interlock locking functions to guarantee safe, stable and efficient powersystem performance.
Highvoltage side: 6 sets KYN28A24 indoor AC metalclad withdrawable switchgear
Protection grade: IP4X, preventing accidental human contact with live components and safeguarding onsite O&M staff personal safety.
Functional configuration: Comprising circuitbreaker cabinet, disconnector cabinet, voltagetransformer cabinet and earthingswitch cabinet. It achieves hierarchical highvoltage distribution control, protection and status monitoring.
Core strengths: Equipped with VSI24 kV vacuum circuitbreakers featuring outstanding arcextinguishing performance and automatic shortcircuitfault isolation. The device can cut off circuits within 0.1 seconds upon fault occurrence, protecting personnel and hardware while limiting fault impact across the whole powersupply network.
Transformer side: 5 sets SCB1410 kV drytype transformers
Model breakdown: 3 × SCB141600 kVA/10 kV for main productionline power supply; 2 × SCB141000 kVA/10 kV for auxiliaryequipment power supply.
Core strengths: Adopting epoxyresin integral casting coil technology. Units deliver flameretardant, fireproof and explosionproof performance. No separate fireseparation gaps are required for workshophall installation, saving valuable factoryfloor space. Operating noise stays ≤ 60 dB, with minimal disturbance to workshop working conditions and adjacent residential zones. Superior insulation performance adapts well to Thailand’s hightemperature, highhumidity climate; design servicelife exceeds 25 years.
Technical Parameters and Certification
To ensure full compliance with Thai local codes plus international norms, all equipment has passed authoritative global testing and certification. Jinma Electric maintains a complete inhouse qualification framework:
Corporate qualifications: ISO9001 QualityManagementSystem, ISO14001 EnvironmentalManagementSystem and ISO45001 OccupationalHealthandSafetyManagementSystem certifications, guaranteeing standardized, ecofriendly and safe manufacturing workflows.
Product certifications: KYN28A24 switchgear and SCB14 drytype transformers hold TISI (Thai Industrial Standard Institute), CE and CB certificates. TISI certification is issued after onsite testing by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute to confirm full compatibility with Thailand gridaccess criteria.
Implemented standards: Production strictly follows GB/T 102282015 (drytype transformers), GB/T 39062006 (3.6 kV40.5 kV highvoltage switchgear), alongside reference to IEC 60044, IEC 60298 international standards to secure internationallycompetitive product quality.
Installation, Commissioning and Technical Services
Aware of compact customersite installation footprint and limited localstaff familiarity with our equipment, we dispatched three senior technical engineers with over 10 years of completesetindustrialproject experience for fiveday onsite guidance and endtoend professional support:
Foundation acceptance: We assisted the customer inspecting switchgearbase channelsteel flatness and earthing quality, confirming foundations meet installation specifications and preventing vibration or poorearthingrelated operational defects later.
Cabinet installation: Cabinet verticality is precisely adjusted, keeping error within 1 mm. This guarantees tight cabinettocabinet connections and avoids gaps allowing ingress of dust and moisture which would impair equipment performance.
Interlockcommissioning testing: Every “fiveprevention” interlock function of the switchgear is verified itembyitem: preventing wrong circuitbreaker switching; preventing disconnector switching under load; preventing earthingwire connection to live circuits; preventing closing circuits with earthingwires connected; preventing unauthorised entry into live compartments. We also test transformerswitchgear linkage performance to assure coordinated, stable powersystem behaviour.
Personnel training: Full Englishlanguage operational training is delivered for customer O&M teams, covering routine inspection, faulttroubleshooting and emergencyresponse protocols. We supply detailed bilingual ChineseEnglish operationandmaintenance manuals, empowering local technicians to independently operate and service the installed hardware.
Project Achievements and Market Value
The complete project successfully passed PEA (Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand) acceptance and went into official operation in December 2024. After onemonth stable fieldrun, all technical indicators satisfy design targets with tangible project outcomes:
Powersupply stability: The full distribution system runs faultfree without shutdown events. Powersupply reliability reaches 99.9 %, fully meeting stringent power requirements for automotiveparts precision manufacturing and avoiding massive financial losses from production downtime.
Compliance advantages: Complete TISI certification and supporting documentation enabled extremely smooth customsclearance, completed within just 24 hours. Demurrage risks were eliminated and substantial timerelated costs saved for the client.
Market significance: Successful project delivery marks Jinma Electric’s completeset powerdistribution equipment formal entry into Thailand’s highend industrial sector. It breaks longterm localmarket dominance held by EuropeanAmerican brands and creates solid foundations for future expansion within Thailand’s automotive, electronics and other highendindustry project markets.
Customer Testimonial: “Jinma Electric’s switchgear and transformers demonstrate excellent systemmatching performance and stable operation, fully satisfying our strict autopartsmanufacturing power requirements. Complete TISI certifications allowed seamless customsclearance and saved us considerable time and expense. Onsite guidance provided by their technical team is highlyprofessional and resolved our localO&Mstaff skill gaps. Jinma Electric is a longtermtrusted cooperation partner for us.”
